A REAL DEADLINE

GOAFS II: #157
REAL RED(GREEN) LINE
OCTOBER 25, 2015

F
inance has never been my forte. I round my checks in my check ledger upwards to the nearest dollar. This way it usually comes close to balancing, and any error is on the side of more money in the account than I expected. In spite of that, this graphic in the October 17 edition of World Magazine caught my eye. Rarely has the mess we are in been so simply and starkly revealed. What it says is mandatory (automatic and required) government spending will become more than total government income in 2027. The American Dream is burning and there is no indication that our politicians will do anything to put out the fire, they are too busy fiddling to do the job they were sent to Washington to do.

Y
ou can meditate on this chart and draw your own conclusions. I will briefly tell you mine. The closest thing to a moral compass possessed by the majority of the politicians in America in the last 50 years is the weathervane. What the good, the beautiful and the true is determined by the way the wind is blowing, today. Not by history, not by reason, and not by any objective standard. The motto has become “Feelings are knowledge, Opinions are truth and all sincerely held opinions are equal.” Electing the right politicians and appointing the right Supreme Court Justices will not solve the problem.

T
he solution lies in submission to the will of the Sovereign Creator and Sustainer of all that is, all that ever was and all that ever shall be. The solution is in the nature of the spiritual lives of those who professes, “Jesus Christ is risen” and confess “Jesus Christ is Lord.” This includes the voters as well as the politicians. Christian’s must repent and begin living a normal Christian life—every day, all day long. In her book, Secure in the Everlasting Arm’s, Elisabeth Elliot sums up this life in a single powerful sentence:

“The whole essence of the spiritual life consists in recognizing the designs of God for us at the present moment.”

This pregnant statement bears with it obligations—to see, to understand, and to obey. God dwells in the obedience of His people.
Many years ago, in a very difficult time, I wrote a brief reminder of these things and put it on a bookmark.

CREED
Yesterday is a memory.
Tomorrow is a dream.
I will live today with full attention
To the reality God brings me,
         Fitting myself to it
By doing what needs to be done.
The great worldview thinker, Abraham Kuiper is known for noting that God looks down on His creation and claims: “There’s not a square inch of it that doesn’t belong to Me.” Don’t imagine for a minute that Kuiper might have followed up on with a wimpy exception about politics. You need only remind yourself that Kuyper took politics seriously enough to serve as the Pime Minister of the Netherlands from 1901-1905.

LABOR DAY--THE CROSSING

GOAFS II: #156
LABOR DAY – THE CROSSING
OCTOBER 18, 2015

LABOR DAY
The Crossing
Anno Domini Two Thousand Fifteen

The sea was wide and deep--
Great billows rolled like smoking mountains
       bright from the East.
Her boat was very small and very frail…

But,

Jesus the sailor who walked upon the water
was in the boat with her--
This same Jesus sailed with her all the way
to the Kingdom of His Father where
He led her to the King.
Surrounded by myriads of angels and a great cloud
       of witnesses,
She was welcomed as a member of
       The family.

HALLELUJAH!  HALLELUJAH!  HALLELUJAH!

She now waits patiently,
       with joyful anticipation,
For that great day
when all those she left behind
will join her, in their resurrection bodies,
       to make themselves at home
in the New Heaven and New Earth--
For endless ages upon ages, world without end.

                                                          AMEN!
                             AMEN!
AMEN!
