POLL FROM THE TWILIGHT ZONE

#194 TWILIGHT ZONE POLL

In 5 days, Americans will cast their votes. Since this election will set an all-time record for number of polls, and since the pollsters are romping around in a very large piece of unknown territory, I have decided to submit my own analysis.

I am not a prophet, nor the son of a prophet, so this analysis will be highly subjective and grossly unscientific, but I just can’t resist the urge to hold forth in curmudgeonly pique over the state of the nation on the verge of the most important election in a long, long time.

First a word about all the charges and countercharges of “suppressing the voters” that are flying around like the monkeys in The Wizard of Oz. I think both sides are guilty. The Democrats have a target list and the Republicans have a target list.

THE DEMOCRAT LIST OF VOTES TO SUPPRESS
1. All military/expatriate votes. These votes have been overwhelmingly Republican and the Democrats have managed with smoke and committee foot-dragging to hit this target pretty solidly for years. In 2006, 48,600 expatriate and military votes were not counted due to the problems in the system—problems which have been around a long time and kept around primarily by the Democrats who profit most from the situation. This year will probably be worse since members of the armed forces and their dependents did not even receive their postcard applications for voting by the January 15, 2008 DOD deadline.

THE REPUBLICAN LIST OF VOTES TO SUPPRESS
1. Illegal alien voters
2. Dead voters
3. Felons who have not had their right to vote restored.
4. Virtual voters—fantasy voters like the thousands recruited illegally by ACORN, many by felons doing it for money.
5. Foreign non-citizen workers registered in the process of obtaining a driver’s license and not being told they would violate the law by voting and be subject to deportation.

A large majority of the above voters can be counted on to vote the Democrat ticket.

I suppose the actual statistics on these groups might be found, although if they could be accurately determined the pollsters would be taking them into consideration. I seriously doubt that these voters are included in the current polls.

“Disenfranchisement” is not an appropriate term to apply to the suppression of these voters. None of the above has a legal right to vote. Unfortunately, anytime any effort is made to purge the voting rolls of those with no legal right to vote, the Democrat lawyers scream “Disenfranchisement” until they are hoarse. Since any bureaucratic attempt to purge the voter roles is bound to have some errors, the case is always made, though not always baldly stated, that every single legal voter is so important that it is just fine to keep 10,000 illegal voters on the list to protect the single legal voter from inadvertently being purged.

THE VOTES BOTH PARTIES MIGHT LIKE TO SUPPRESS BUT HAVEN’T FIGURED OUT A WAY--
THE UNDECIDED
This is not a list, just a big fat category.

This year, 5 days out from the election, 10% of likely voters are undecided. This group drives both parties up the wall. These are the people who have a hard time deciding on whether they want paper or plastic at the grocery store. They are the second, third and fourth generation of people who have grown up sitting in front of the BOOB TUBE, and learning in the public schools that “FEELINGS ARE KNOWLEDGE-OPINIONS ARE TRUTH-ALL SINCERELY HELD OPINIONS ARE EQUAL.”

Many of these undecided freely admit that they do not actually decide whom to vote for until they step through the curtain and face the fearful voting machine. It is these people we have to thank for the point of sale junk that loads up the aisles in the Kroger store. Their decision process is existential and emotional. The TUBE and the heritage of John Dewey have rotted their brains and they only guidance they have is the emotion of the moment.

HIGHLY SUBJECTIVE, GROSSLY UNSCIENTIFIC CONCLUSIONS

1. The Republicans have already failed for the most part to suppress the votes of their target list. A very large crowd of illegal votes will be cast and most of them will be in support of the Democrats.
2. The Democrats have already succeeded in suppressing a large percentage of the Republican military and expatriate votes.
3. The Republicans do not have enough money to flood the media on November third with enough emotional stuff to push the undecideds their way.

NON-PROPHET PROPHETIC INSIGHT

This election is very, very tight. It is so tight that that the votes in these three groups, short of some kind of Divine intervention, may very well combine to decide the election.

THE TOTALITARIAN HUMANIST STATE

NUMBER 192
The Totalitarian Humanist State

It has been four months since my last blog. Part of me says too much has already been written about the coming election. But another part of me has an itch that just must be scratched.

Last week I wrote a letter to the editor of our local liberal rag. I know it will never see print but I write these sometimes just for the satisfaction of knowing that one liberal editor will have to read it and that one word of truth sometimes overcomes the world.

To The Editor
The Real Issue In This Election

Your letters pages seem almost overwhelmed these days with petty partisan sniping about which presidential candidate will provide the most generous bread, the most exciting circuses, and the tastiest victims to be tossed to the lions starting in January. It is about time you printed a word about the real issue in this election.

The real issue is whether the electorate is ready to take the last steps down the socialist slippery slope into the totalitarian or absolute State described by Walter Lipmann way back in 1929 in his Preface to Morals:

“A state is absolute…when it claims the right to a monopoly of all the forces within the community, to make war, to make peace, to conscript life, to tax, to establish and disestablish property, to define crime, to punish disobedience, to control education, to supervise the family, to regulate personal habits, and to censor opinions…The Modern State claims all of these powers, and in…theory, there is no real difference in the size of the claim between communists, fascists, and democrats.”

1600 years ago St. Augustine observed that without God there is no justice—he said the State without justice soon becomes a criminal syndicate at covert war against its own people.

An Indian Poet/Philosopher Mohammed Iqbal put it this way: “Separate religion from politics and you are left with Genghis Khan.”

We are on the verge of voting a veto-proof Democrat majority into Congress and a radical left liberal Democrat into the Whitehouse. That will put us one or two “I feel your pain living Constitution” Supreme Court Judges away from the Mother Of All Totalitarian Nanny states.

Even those who despise George Bush and actually believe John McCain is no different should pause to realize that a Republican in the White House may be the only thing that might provide some measure of protection from the tender ministrations of an Absolute Humanist State whose agenda is in lockstep with the culture of death. It is not without good reason that Americans have always been leery of the Legislative Branch and the Executive Branch in the hands of the same political party.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I woke up early thinking about this and writing a conclusion in my mind:

LITANY OF LAMENT
To be sung antiphonally, by Pilgrims going up to vote,
Accompanied by trombones, clarinets and cymbals.

From the silver-tongued messiah whose golden promises roll like scented oil across the troubled waters of our envy and greed,
O Lord, deliver us.

From the Robin Hood who would spread the wealth around until all are equally poor
And the rich are but a memory in the land,
O Lord, deliver us.

From the hard bondage of absolute tolerance
And the sacrament of murdered babies,
Inconvenient in the womb,
O Lord, deliver us.

From the tender mercies of a Sovereign Nanny State,
And the Nanny with a large club who is ever watchful and
Never in the wrong,
O Lord, deliver us.

And finally, from Orwell’s nightmare of a boot
Crashing down upon the face of a citizen forever and ever,
O Merciful Lord, deliver us.

Due to the Democrats’ over-managing their primaries, we have been spared, for a season, the Mother of All Grannies--but the Absolute Granny State is much bigger than Hillary Clinton. I will hold my nose in November and vote a straight Republican ticket—purely on the basis of self-preservation.
