TO DREAM AN OLD MAN'S DREAMS
NUMBER 180
TO DREAM
AN OLD MAN'S DREAMS
I’m still too young to dream
An old man’s dreams,
And yet too old, I’ve found,
To scheme
A young man’s schemes.
My mind is in the middle now
Somewhere not east, not west,
My armor’s far too rusty now
To start some Grand New Quest.
I sit and watch the crystal
At the window slowly turning,
Tracing patches on the walls,
That glow with cosmic burning.
God of the Ages,
Rule all my dreams.
Sweet songs of Zion,
Be all my themes.
Thoughts of eternity,
Lighten my days.
High King of Heaven,
Redeem all my ways.

EASTER

NUMBER 179
Easter
It has been a while since I did a blog. I try not to say something unless I have something to say. This seems a good time to say a few words.
After experiencing several weeks of early spring days in the mid-seventies, a cold front blew in. As we drove to church last evening great black clouds whirled in the northwest and a few big flakes began to fall.
Coming out from the concert we found the car covered with wet snow--the temperature was 30 degrees and still dropping. It bottomed out at 20 sometime early this morning.
This morning we woke up to snow out our bedroom window--the early optimism tomato plants, and early rising flowers in the garden are dead or dying. In a small way, we can relate to Jesus' disciples and followers as they spent the Saturday after His crucifixion, waiting to visit the tomb early Sunday morning. A cloud of dying and death hangs over things.
But we know much will survive in the Garden, new life will replace the old, and the beauty of growing things will again surround the house. It took the resurrection for the disciples to know and appreciate this about Jesus, but they learned the lesson of the empty tomb and the rest is history.
We trust your Easter will be a time of great blessing and deep thanksgiving. He is risen! He is risen indeed!
